WE ARE OPEN | an evening in Prague 7 galleries | special Art's Birthday 2013 edition
Twice a year /always in the beginning of the autumn and spring gallery season/ all of the major galleries as well as independent small exhibition spaces in Holešovice, including the National Gallery’s Veletržní palác, DOX, or the Gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts, extend their opening hours until 10:00 p.m. and offer their visitors a special programme. This includes exhibition openings, viewings with a commentary, special site-specific projects, meetings with curators and artists and gallerists, film screenings, concerts, etc. Bicycles and maps of galleries including a detailed schedule of the evening are also available.
All of the galleries have free admission.
This event has long been very popular with both the public and the media. A total of eighteen Holešovice-based galleries participated in its last edition held on 4/10/2012. In addition to institutions and private and non-profit galleries, visitors were also able to see alternative exhibition spaces /Holešovické nádraží station, Artwall on the Nábřeží kapitána Jaroše embankment, a mast on a terrace in a private apartment, a house in the dockyard/. The event was supported by its traditional partner, ArtMap.cz, together with the Fotograf Festival that took place at the same time at various venues around the city. The supporting programme that was presented in front of the building of the former electrical works, featured Bistro8, Zelené trhy, Bajkazyl, Café V lese, and other popular local and visiting businesses.

17/1 Closing of the exhibition
Exhibition of daguerreotype portraits. Ondřej Přibyl makes daguerreotypes of Children. The subject of children in conjunction with the timelessness typical for daguerreotypes evokes a sense of uncertainty and creates associations that evoke a sense of extreme anxiety. This is when the beginning meets finality. What is more, photographs of real children, even if they are unknown to the viewer, may evoke a slightly unpleasant voyeuristic feeling like when looking through someone else’s family album.

5:00 p.m. – Opening of the exhibition and official presentation of a new Scholastika logo produced by the student Vojtěch Vavřín. Afterwards visitors can enjoy refreshments, music, and a tour of the school of contemporary art with a commentary.

An exhibition of the works from two recent graduates of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. Tichý reviews his original concept of painting format, which now newly gains a more expressive and thematic as well as formal imaginative dimension. The painting thus creates a “scene”, often endowed with a critical meaning. The paintings are complemented by objects from Ondřej Oliva that use a formal sense of humour and perspective to comment on various models and stereotypes of our behaviour and culturally-based attitudes.
