Experiment with Zagami Jericho, listen to her new album TOXIKOMANIA

5. leden 2018

Shortly after the announcement of the music export project Czeching 2017 winners, Zagami Jericho, the talented producer, singer and an absolute winner of the competition, began to record her new album at the Czech Radio’s Studio A in Karlín. The outcome, TOXIKOMANIA, is an uncompromising dance record with euphoric hit moments as well as dark drops.

The TOXIKOMANIA album will be officially released on January 10 in digital format as well as on vinyl. You can already listen to it. The record release festivities will begin live on air at Radio Wave and continue at Prague’s Grind club where Zagami will introduce her new show. You can also expect guest appearances by singer and producer Piqi Miqi and producer Kyofu. The new album will be available on vinyl at the venue.

Zagami’s debut album, City is My Church, was described as retro-futuristic and close the synth wave genre. While working on the new album, the young producer chose the theme of addiction and a much tougher dance approach. “The word Toxikomania mainly refers to addiction to some kind of drug, but one can be addicted to anything – a feeling, a place… When I was working on the album it was not really about darkness, it was about aggression. It’s a reaction to my first record. No more romantic synth wave fun, there will be a party,” says the author about her new project.

The music video shoot for the first single Invitation took place in Japan and it was supported by Radio Wave as well. The director of the video, Jaroslav Moravec, who collaborated with the Czeching winner on the whole concept, described the artist as “bold and fierce” and he could not imagine shooting the video in her homeland given the nature of the singer’s production. The music video takes us to Japanese casinos and the lead role is played by Japanese Instagram model Hirari Ikeda. Invitation is bringing us to the new sonic world that Zagami Jericho has created. It is an alluring world, which frequently becomes aggressive and dark as well. Here is where the touching gentle singing meets repetitive low-bit rate sound reminiscent of slot machines or only the piano itself, but also where conscious vocal expression meets drum & bass aesthetics. With a morbid playfulness, Zagami infects the sharp dance approach with just a bit of provocative cheesiness of internet memes. She is not afraid to experiment. After all, everything is just a game.

As the winner of Czeching, chosen by international jury panel of radio broadcast experts, on January 19 Zagami will get the opportunity to perform at Eurosonic Noorder, the biggest European showcase festival taking place at Goringen (Holland) and a chance to introduce herself to foreign audiences as well as music professionals. Her music and her concert performance will become a part of the Music Exchange of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) repository where public radio stations from across Europe go to choose music for their programs.

The young producer and singer gained momentum in 2016 when she released her debut album. In just a few months she became the Wild Card of the talent project Startér at Rádio Wave; she was nominated for the Newcomer of the Year category of Vinyla music awards; and she also received a lot of concert offers. In 2017 she also became the youngest winner of Czeching, a music export project established by Czech radio station Radio Wave, which sends promising new artists out to the world.

CZECHING JUDGES ON ZAGAMI JERICHO:

Very sophisticated production. The track is built beautifully with interesting details. It has the atmosphere, it is entertaining and deep at the same time.
Christoph Lindemann, PULS - Bayerischer Rundfunk

Zagami definitely shines, it is really surprising when you listen to her.
Bethan Elfyn, BBC Wales
