Czeching is a music export project powered by Radio Wave dedicated to help progressive and promising Czech bands on their way to reach European listeners and stages. Each year an international jury selects one band that gets the opportunity to record and release new EP as well as perform at the biggest European showcase festival Eurosonic Noorderslag, this year also in two clubs of Liveurope network. Their recordings are offered to other radio stations through the EBU Music Exchange.
In 2016 Czeching became a monthly radio show where the topic of music export is further explored. All the 2016 nominees and a special foreign guest, the Iranian-Dutch singer Sevdaliza performed at the Czeching Showcase, where the winners were announced. The overall winners of Czeching 2016 were electronic producers Himalayan Dalai Lama. Their new EP Space was recorded in Czech Radio’s studio Karlin and released on iTunes, Spotify and as limited edition of cassettes. Radio Wave listeners voted for electronic duo Ba:zel.
In 2017 Czeching is presented as a weekly column on Radio Wave introducing experts in the field of music export and building career in music to inspire young bands and producers. Czeching Showcase will take place in the garages of The Czech Radio on the 27th September, all the nominees will perform and the winners will be announced before the after party with special guest DJ Mary Anne Hobbs. This time musicians and music professionals will have a chance to take part in the afternoon discussion program, that will offer several panel discussions with local and foreign professionals on the topic of radio programming, searching for new talents and music export. Young bands will also have a chance to meet the professionals and experienced musicians during speed meeting session called “Personal Review”. The afternoon program is supported by the newly established Czech Music Office.
