Czeching 2015: the winner of public vote is Aid Kid
Besides hailing the official Czeching 2015 winner VR/NOBODY voted by our 17-membered international expert panel, finally we come to know what the public choice looks like. The Vote For Your Favourite Czech Song application closed up on 7th October at 8 pm and the winner in listeners view is Aid Kid (345 total votes). VR/NOBODY finished in second place and got 72 votes less than the winner.
Contemporary electronic music seems to be pretty popular in the Czech republic as the Czeching 2015 official winner VR/NOBODY were in the listeners contest just surpassed by another electronic originator Aid Kid. The talented Prague-based electronic producer and his track titled „Broken Arp“ were nominated by Radio Wave editor Jirka Špičák. The Czeching 2015 listeners poll results mean a great news to fans of sophisticated electronic music. In addition, due to Aid Kid´s young age there is a lot of amazing music to come in the future.
The score at the Vote For Your Favourite Czech Song competition brings the young artist a few promising opportunities – European radio stations will be provided by his tracks and he can expect promotional support at the major showcase festival Eurosonic Noorderslag in Groningen in the Netherlands. Aid Kid will be scheduled for Audioport, an international music project of Radio Wave and Slovak FM Radio, furthermore he will perform at Radio Wave Live Session and will be airplayed on Radio Wave.
Ondra Mikula (21) hiding behind Aid Kid moniker is no newcomer to the Czech music scene. Actually he is one of the most frequently performing electronic artists in the Czech republic – he supported for such acts as Arms And Sleepers, Wax Tailor or SOHN. Due to pulling off a victory in Startér talent chart he was added to line-up of the renowned Pohoda festival. Aid Kid´s sound weaves through IDM electronica, intricate sonic structures and 4/4 dance energy, yet with the strong accent on harmonic side of compositions. As if Boards Of Canada, Lusine and Jon Hopkins happened to meet at a studio.
In 2013, the first edition od Czeching was organised. The winner was female duo Never Sol. In 2014, surfpunk trio Wild Tides succeeded in the main competition. This year Vote For Your Favourite Czech Song public contest announce a winner for the second time. It was a shoegaze band Manon Meurt who romp home to victory in 2014 while this year listeners favour electronic producer Aid Kid.
As a solo artist Aid Kid does not feel lonely at all however the situation might change sooner or later: „I´d like to conduct , direct a large ensemble at some time in the future“. Ultimately he used to be a member of several local indie bands such as Daydream Nation, Dignity Dope or DIV I DED. At present he studies art and design specializing in interactive installation, multichannel sound art and videomapping. His eponymous self- released debut album came out in April 2015 and received appreciative critical acclaim.
