Along with its main activities, Czech Radio has been also organising four international competitions.
The Prix Bohemia Radio is a festival of original radio creativity, first held in Mladá Boleslav in 1976. The categories rotate every year, though it always features an international category. The festival is chaired by Czech Radio.s Chief Producer and takes place in the city of Poděbrady at the end of September / the beginning of October.
This international radio competition for young musicians is arranged under the patronage of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and is a member of the European Union of Music Competitions for Youth (EMCY). It was established in 1966. Recordings of candidates are sent to Czech Radio by organizations affiliated to EBU or members of EMCY. The winners - CP laureates - defend their title at the Winners Concert in Prague and at the South Bohemian CP Festival.
Czech Radio's competition for youth orchestras and ensembles takes place in Prague every year and is a younger sibling to the Concertino Praga. Concerto Bohemia was likewise set up by the music department focusing on programmes for children and young people. Both competitions are based on the same principle: the anonymous appraisal of sound recordings. The upper age limit is 25 and the maximum number of players is 36.
Drawing Online is a unique drawing competition for children that has been organised by Czech Radio on an annual basis since 1996. Originally, the international broadcasting service of Czech Radio Czech Radio 7 - Radio Prague announced an internet project for children aged between 6 - 14. The number of participants is steadily growing, with schools - both Czech and foreign, individual children, hospitals, institutes for handicapped children and many others submitting their works. The competition is thus truly international. It is supervised by the Online Department of Czech Radio while the organising committee choose a specific topic for each year.
