Chief Editor of the Broadcasting for Roma Asked for Asylum in Canada

3. červen 2009

Czech Radio is very disturbed by the increasing number of racially motivated attacks and growing radicalization of the society. These negative expressions of intolerant and xenophobic behaviour of some individuals have touched even Czech Radio and its employees. Anna Poláková, chief editor of the broadcasting for Roma at the Czech Radio 1 - Radiožurnál editorial office for national minorities has asked together with her whole family for asylum in Canada.

"The fact that we have decided to ask for asylum is not at all connected to my work at the radio, but to constant attacks at my family and to radicalization of the society," said Anna Poláková in her email which she sent on 2nd June 2009 to Hana Hikelová, the director of Czech Radio News - Current Affairs Stations. "According to the materials that Anna Poláková left here at disposal, her family has been recently facing unscrupulous attacks. After a discussion with the lawyers, we will do our best to secure proper solution to this case."
