Czech Radio opened new foreign correspondent post in China
In January 2017, Czech Radio’s network of foreign correspondents was expanded by the position of foreign correspondent in the People’s Republic of China. The new correspondent is David Jakš, an experienced journalist who worked both in the print media and television and who has been specialising on China for a long time.
“Nowadays, the entire region of Asia-Pacific is the driving force behind economics, transport and investments and the place of decisions that influence the entire world. China is mostly perceived in terms of its politics, but that would be a mistake. There are many human stories unfolding every day, and the pace at which everything is changing there is unseen elsewhere,” said David Jakš.
Czech Radio’s network, which is the largest one amongst all the Czech media, now consist of ten foreign correspondents: apart from China, it has reporters in Slovakia, Russia, Poland, Germany, France, Brussels (the seat of institutions of the European Union), in the Middle East and in the United States.
“In this era of quasi-information and misinformation, having an on-the-scene reporter is a great advantage. The reporter establishes contacts on different levels and observes—directly, not through intermediaries—how the people of the respective country really live. This is the case in all regions where Czech Radio has its experienced correspondents and the People’s Republic of China will surely be no exception,” said the News and Current Affairs Director, Jan Pokorný.
The People’s Republic of China is the world's most populous country, whose economic and geopolitical importance has been significantly increasing in the past few years; currently, China is obviously trying to establish itself internationally in other areas as well, ranging from science and research to military involvement.
