Karel Zýka, Technical Director and head of the digitisation team at CR, has been appointed a member of the EBU Operations Council – an advisory body of the EBU’s Executive Board. He becomes one of CR’s main representatives within the European Broadcasting Union (EBU)’s advisory body.

Peter Duhan, CR’s Director General, explains: “Czech Radio has again confirmed its position as a respected member of the European Broadcasting Union and a strategic partner of leading Western European media houses. With approximately a dozen of our employees engaged in EBU’s radio broadcasting regulatory bodies, we now rank among the most active members in EBU’s radio division.”

The Operations Council prepares background documents for EBU’s strategic projects, namely with regard to business strategies and negotiations with key commercial partners on the European level. It also assesses business, marketing and technological developments within public service broadcasting throughout Europe. In addition to representatives from Czech Radio, the Operations Council of the EBU also consists of delegates from France Television, German ZDF, Italian RAI, Finnish YLE, Polish TV station TVP, and Turkish TRT. The Operations Council is currently made up of eight members who have been elected for terms of office ending in 2017.

Czech Radio’s participation in the prestigious EBU Radio Committee – an association of European public service broadcasters – is considered of particular strategic importance. In May, Czech Radio’s Deputy Director General for Programming and Broadcasting, René Zavoral, was re-elected for a new term as a member of the EBU Radio Committee. The EBU Radio Committee is the main statutory body for European public service broadcasters and decides on priorities within the field of radio broadcasting in Europe. At the same time, its members formulate common positions on behalf of public service broadcasters in relation to legislation, copyright issues associated with music production, digital broadcasting, etc., and support the development of radio broadcasting among EBU member countries.
