Jan Mráček

Jan Mráček (born 1991) began playing violin at five years of age as a pupil of M. Micková. He spent eight years under the tutelage of this teacher and participated in several competitions, e.g. in the years 1998-2001, he took part in the nationwide children’s competition Plzenecké housličky, where he emerged triumphant every time. He was the overall winner of the competition in 2002. From 2003, Mráček continued his studies with J. Fišer. In the same year, he was a prize winner at the Prague Junior Note competition. He currently studies at the Prague Conservatory.

In 2004, he played at Prague’s Rudolphinum concert hall with the maestro J. Suk as part of the “Josef Suk Introduces Young Talents” cycle of concerts. In 2005, he won the Kocian Violin Competition in the third category as well as second prize at Václav Hudeček’s summer violin academy. In 2006, he won first prize in the fourth category of the Kocian Violin Competition in Ústí nad Orlicí as well as the main prize awarded at V. Hudeček’s virtuoso courses, where he received a maestro instrument from the workshop of K. Vávra. He also became the overall winner of the national round of the Concertino Praga International Radio Competition.

In June 2007, he played within the scope of the Concertino Praga series of concerts at the South Bohemia Festival. In the summer, he attended violin courses given by Professor S. B. Shipps (USA) and presented himself at the International Louis Spohr Competition for Young Violinists in the German city of Weimar. In November 2008, he was a winner in the Nationwide Conservatory Competition. In May 2009, he emerged victorious at the Beethoven’s Hradec International Music Competition, where he performed Dvořák’s Concerto for Violin in A Minor with Ostrava’s Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra during the winners’ concert. In the summer of the same year, he attended Musica Mundi courses in Belgium, where he was a pupil of G. Lipkind, L. Kerbel, L. Chilingirian and W. Boeykens. He also performed as a soloist under the baton of M. Vengerov. His greatest success to date has been to become a laureate and win second prize at the 2010 Prague Spring International Music Competition.

As a soloist, he collaborates with the Czech Chamber Orchestra, Virtuosi Pragenses and the New Prague Radio Symphony Collegium. He also regularly performs on V. Hudeček’s pre-Christmas tour. He has been a member of Trio Hélios Praga since January 2008. Since 2011/12 he has been named soloist of the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra.
