Conductor

Leoš Svárovský (1961) studied flute at the Prague Conservatory and conducting at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, with Václav Neumann. He started his career in the National Theatre in Prague as an assistant of Zdeněk Košler. In 1991 he was invited by Herbert von Karajan Foundation to cooperate with George Solti, Claudio Abbado and the Vienna Philharmonic at „Sommerspiele Salzburg". Since 2000 he has been teaching at the department of conducting at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. 

Since the beginning of his career he has been head conductor of excellent orchestras (Prague Chamber Opera, Janáček’s Philharmonic Ostrava, Brno Philharmonic, Slovak Sinfonietta, Prague State Opera, Czech Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Pardubice). He also acted as chief conductor of the Prague National Theatre Ballet Orchestra and a permanent guest conductor of the Slovak Philharmonic. He has been cooperating with the Czech Philharmonic since 2001. During last years, their co-operation has become regular. The culmination of it was the USA tour in spring 2008. Currently he acts as principal guest conductor of the Slovak Philharmonic; with this orchestra he repeatedly tours Japan and all Asia. 


Leoš Svárovský also cooperated with many excellent orchestras. To name just a few: Orchestre de Pays de la Lorraine Metz, Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg, Bach Collegium München, Beethoven Orchester Bonn, Residentie Orkest den Haag, RTL Symphony Orchestra Luxembourg, Bruckner Orchester Linz, Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, Shanghai Radio Symphony Orchestra, Radio Symphonie Orkest Utrecht, The Colorado Music Festival Orchestra, Zagreb, Dortmund and Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Presidential Symphony Orchestra Ankara, Staatskapelle Dresden. 

The artist is regularly invited to perform at many important music festivals in the Czech Republic, as well as abroad (Festspiele Europäische Wochen Passau, George Enescu Festival Bucharest, Colorado Musik Festival, Settimane Musicali di Ascona etc.). He cooperated with prominent soloists, including I. Ardašev, R. Buchbinder, D. Damrau, M. Fedotov, R. Firkušný, H. Hardenberger,V. Hudeček, S. Jaffé, L. Josephowitsch, S. Kovatschewitch, X. de Maestre. Ch. Margiono, I. Oistrach, G. Opitz, L. Orgonášová, C. Ortiz, D. Pecková, V. Pikajzen, E. Randová, K. Ricciarelli, K. Rydl, J. Suk, Sumi Jo, P. Šporcl, D. Varjon or S. Vladar. 

Most recordings by Leoš Svárovský were carried out by Supraphon Records but he also cooperated with other significant companies (Newport Classic, New Millennium Records BBC and ArcoDiva).
