Robert Jindra

He graduated from the Prague Conservatory in classical voice in 1999. He continued his studies in the area of conducting, completing them in 2003. Starting in 1999 he worked regularly with the Prague Children’s Opera, and with this ensemble he prepared a number of works and recorded several operas on CD. Between 2000-2008 he was active as an instructor at the Prague Conservatory, where he studied and directed operas including Žižkovské dvojzpěvy (Žižkov Duets - Šimon Voseček), Dido and Aeneas (Henry Purcell), La clemenza di Tito, Le nozze di Figaro and Die Zauberflöte (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart). In 2001 he became assistant chorus master at the National Theatre in Prague.

In that same year at the Prague State Opera he prepared and conducted the world premiere of two operas by contemporary composer Vladimír Wimmer Rytíř a smrt (The Knight and Death) and Jelizaweta Bam. In January 2004 at the National Theatre in Prague he assumed the position of assistant conductor and shared in the preparation of the operas Nagano (Martin Smolka), Vanda (Antonín Dvořák), Montezuma (Lorenzo Ferrero), Aida (Giuseppe Verdi), Don Pasquale (Gaetano Donizetti), Don Giovanni (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart), Tajemství (The Secret - Bedřich Smetana ), La fanciulla del West (Giacomo Puccini), Falstaff (Giuseppe Verdi) and Eugene Onegin (Pyotr Ilych Tchaikovsky). He also worked on the preparations for the first complete performance of Richard Wagner’s tetralogy The Ring of the Nibelung at the National Theatre in Prague in 2005. There starting in the 2005-2006 season, he conducted several productions (Don Giovanni, Tajemství, Falstaff, Carmen, Così fan tutte and Káťa Kabanová). He has worked with such pre-eminent conductors as John Fiore, Asher Fisch and Gerd Albrecht. In 2006 he initiated his work with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein ((Düsseldorf/Duisburg), where as musical assistant to chief conductor John Fiore he took part in the preparation of productions of Elektra (Richard Strauss) and Jenufa (Leoš Janáček).

In the following season (2008-2009) he did the musical preparation for opera productions by Czech composers such as Dvořák‘s Rusalka, Janáček‘s Káťa Kabanová, Věc Makropulos, Příhody lišky Bystroušky (The Cunning Little Vixen) and Z mrtvého domu (From the House of the Dead). He also took part in the preparations of the Ring of the Nibelung tetralogy. Between 2005 and 2008 he conducted Don Giovanni during the summer seasons in the Estates Theatre in Prague. In 2007 he was chosen to conduct the closing concert of the Opera 2007 festival in the Prague State Opera. In the Royal Norwegian Opera in Oslo he debuted with Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos. In March of 2010 he accepted the position of musical director of the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava, where up until the current time he has prepared operas such as Massenet’s Werther, Janáček’s Jenufa, Verdi’s Falstaff, Hindemith’s Cardillac, Puccini’s La Bohème, Janáček’s Makropulos Case and Dvořák’s Armida.
