Tomáš Král

Tomáš Král (1983) comes from Brno, where he attended the Lycée Matyas Lerch, while also studying singing at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts under RNDr. MgA. Adriana Hlavsová. As a member of the chamber opera at the academy’s Music Faculty he performed such roles as Ernest in Joseph Haydn’s opera Il Mondo della Luna, Harašta in Leoš Janáček’s Cunning Little Vixen and the Count in Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro.
Since 2005, Král has regularly collaborated with the ensembles Collegium 1704, Collegium Marianum, Musica Florea, Capella Regia, and Ensemble Inegal. He is a member of the choir Collegium Vocale 1704, with which he has taken part in such projects as “Bach – Prague 2005” (Bach’s Mass in B Minor at the Prague Spring, the Christmas Oratorio with the Prague Symphony Orchestra). In 2007 he participated in productions of the St. John Passion and the St. Matthew Passion and in interpretation of Jan Dismas Zelenka’s Votive Mass at the Prague Spring, the Dresdner Festspiele, the Festival de musique sacré de la Chaise-Dieu and the Festival de Sablé, where a successful recording was made by the French label Zig-Zag Territoires.
In 2006, Král performed under Jana Semerádová and her Collegium Marianum the role of Ubert in the opera buffa La Serva Padrona by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi and also appeared before audiences at international music festivals at home and abroad. He was invited to collaborate with Gabriela Demeterová and her Collegium on a recording of the aria from J. A. Plánický’s collection of cantatas Opella ecclesiastica as well. He also works with the French Renaissance ensemble Doulce Mémoire, with whom he regularly performs in three different programmes: Une tour de Babel musicale, Requiem des Rois de France and solo programme of Caccini’s music Les Roses d´Ispahan.
Tomáš Král enjoyed success at the Competition of Sacred and Concert Music in Kroměříž in 2006, taking second price. He also studies the interpretation of old music intensively, taking part in courses run by the likes of Julie Hasler (Versailles) and Howard Crook (Paris), and he currently attends regular consultations with Ivan Kusnjer.
