Jan Hudeček and Petr Altrichter at the Rudolfinum’s Dvořák Hall

The orchestra and conductor Petr Altrichter prepared a programme of Slavonic music for Monday 12 January. The overture to Khovanshchina by Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky and Jiří Pauer’s Concerto for Bassoon and Orchestra with the soloist Jan Hudeček were performed in the first half at the Rudolfinum’s Dvořák Hall and, as is traditional, broadcast live on the radio station Vltava; the second half featured Dmitri Shostakovich’s 10th Symphony. Evening was moderated by Jitka Novotná.

Jan Hudeček was born in České Budějovice. Jan Hudeček attended the Primary School of the Arts from the age of eight, and won a number of national and international youth wind instrumental competitions. His first major achievement came in 2005, when he was named the absolute winner in all wind instrument categories in the international competition 15. Concorso Internazionale per Giovani Musicisti “Citta di Barletta” in Italy. In 2008 he won first prize in the 42nd annual Concertino Praga radio competition. At the same time, be became a laureate of this competition’s international round and recorded the bassoon concerto of Jan Nepomuk Hummel for Czech Radio.

In May 2014, he won first prize and laureate title in the Prague Spring international music competition. In connection with this achievement, he also won the Czech Music Fund’s prize for the best performance of a piece by a contemporary Czech composer.

He has performed in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Italy, France, Turkey, Spain, Japan, and the USA. Currently he is in his last year at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, in the classes of Prof. F. Herman and Prof. J. Seidl, and continues to perform as a soloist. Since late 2011 he has been engaged as a solo bassoonist in the National Theatre Orchestra in Prague and is also a first bassoonist of the Solistes European Luxemburg orchestra.
