Ndombolo Craze
Ndombolo dance music is an Afro-techno rhythm unique and loved in many French speaking African countries. We focused on these expressive and explosive Ndombolo vibes as part of the Francophone Friday Ripple Special.
Ndombolo music originates and is a fast paced form of Soukous music, which was developed in the 1940s in the present day Democratic Republic of Congo. Tshala Muana’s souskous classic, Sikila Mutuashi opened the show . It is artists like the Congolese Diva who continue to play an important in popularizing and preserving the Soukous dance moves to the world.
Werrason born Noel Ngiama Makanda has endured many obstacles since debuting in 1981 with his Wenga Musica 4X4 band. Even after his career was threatened in 1997 when the band split, Werrason has since reinvented himself with a new band, Wenga Musica Maison Mere (WMMM) Satellite is a 2013 Ndombolo release from the Congolese star.
Like Coupé-Décalé, Rumba and Makossa, Ndombolo is also heavily influenced by the Soukous guitar patterns. Different African groups have infused this in their traditional style. We closed the show with La Vie Que Jaich from Ghanaian producer Dj Merco featuring Lodie H20.
