Libor Dřevikovský

composer (born 1969)

Libor Dřevikovský studied composition at the Prague Conservatory between the years 1991 and 1995. He attended classes of prof. Oldřich Semerák, Ivan Kurz and Bohuslav Řehoř. He has composed two symphonies and number of various chamber pieces some of which were recorded for the purposes of the Czech Radio.

Between the years 1990 and 1998 he worked as an archivist at the Prague Conservatory and later at the Czech Musical Fond. He was a special editor in publishing houses Panton, Fortuna and Supraphon. Dřevikovský cooperated with the Czech Television on concert transmissions and with the Czech Radio as an author of music programs on the radio station Vltava. There, he became a music editor in 1999, and now still works as a music dramaturgist.

As a conductor he cooperated with the amateur chamber orchestra Academia. Together they premiered Dřevikovský’s II. Symphony and also studied the works of J. Sibelius, A. Dvořák, B. Martinů and others. He is now teamed with the saxophone quartet Bohemia as a composer-arranger. His compositional focus is directed mainly towards chamber music often touching the brass (Mozartimento for three basset-horns, Brass Octet “Harmoniemusik“, “Little Suite” for alto saxophone and piano, “Strange Cembalo“ – a suite for piano and other pieces), sometimes also the symphonic production (Concerto-Divertimento no. 1 F Major and no. 2 Es Major for piano and orchestra).
