Karel Blažej Kopřiva

Karel Blažej Kopřiva (born in Cítoliby near the town of Louny) was a Czech composer, organist and teacher. He studied in Prague and he was one of the most talented students of the organist Josef Seger.

Since his childhood he suffered from tuberculosis and because of the health problems he did not complete his studies at the university. He was an organist in St Jakub’s Church in Cítoliby. His compositions had both Baroque and Classicism attributes. His work was influenced mostly by J. Christian Bach whose cemballo sonatas he knew well. K. B. Kopřiva’s compositions are remarkable for their counterpoint and concertante style.

He composed 12 symhonies (they did not survive), 8 organ concertos (only one of them preserved), masses, requiems, offertories, motets, arias, organ preludes and fugues.
