Expiatio - Otomar Kvěch

Expiatio (purification, lightening up) is a piece commissioned by the Prague Spring festival as a compulsory composition for the 2013 interpretation competition.
One of the structural element sof the work consists of an ascending set of chords (based on the harmonic overtones series) whose sound becomes gradually more and more „lightened up“. Another proces of „purification“ occurs in the second section of the piece: in a reverse fugue that ivolves from initial counterpoint complexity into a concluding single-voice melody.
