Hexachordon for Guitar (amplified ad lib.) - Vlastislav Matoušek

31. prosinec 2009

"There are six strings in space and time that make up the resounding Cosmos, the opposite of the vibrating Chaos. And so the thing to do was, among others, to supplement the myriads of the already existing patterns by another six, in which, for instance, six potentially resounding structures – parts of a hypothetical set of blocks – would be graphically encoded. A set of blocks whose parts may be multiplied and combined at will, and then use these components to compose or build bridges, or mere walkways… and thus to connect things. To connect what is temporarily disconnected. That is one of the few things a human being can do in wellgrounded hope of doing something useful. The parts can be performed in any order." This composition was written in 2000.

As a scholarship holder of the Japan Foundation Vlastislav Matoušek (b. 1948) studied the bamboo flute shakuhachi under Kifu Mitsuhashi in Japan (1996). He plays shakuhachi solo concerts and performs with his Ensemble 108 Hz that specializes in experimental contemporary music and performs also Matoušek’s own compositions.
