Introduzione e 11 variazioni per tromba sola - Jiří Pohnán
The composition “Introduzione e 11 variazioni per tromba sola” was commissioned for Prague Spring 2016 International Festival as an obligatory composition of the second round of interpretation competition.
"The author borrowed the theme, which has a choral character, from his own symphonic work “Prayer”. Unlike in the Prayer, the theme is not used in its original “pure” shape, but from the very beginning it is transformed and as if veiled. In Introduzione an interpret finds himself in a role of some kind of a preacher who, with his singing performance, presents the already mentioned choral theme.
In the following 11 variations, a lot of space is given to player’s virtuosity. The composition is not only a “test”of technical skills of a player; it also stresses an advanced musical performance.
