The Abduction of Scheherazade for Flute and Piano - Adam Skoumal

The composition The Abduction of Scheherazade for Flute and Piano was composed in 2001 in New York. The author used oriental music elements and dedicated it to the Latvian flutist Ilze Urbãne who premiered the composition in 2002.

The first public recognition of the pianist Adam Skoumal as a composer occurred in the Prague Spring Competition 1998, when his playing of his own composition won a special prize for the best performance of a Czech contemporary piece.

In 2006, he premiered his First Piano Concerto with the Prague Philharmonia and he also played his Second Piano Concerto with the Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra of South Bohemia in the same year. In the summer 2008, Shlomo Mintz premiered Skoumal's composition for Violin and Piano called Djinnia in Dubrovnik. Since then, Mr.Mintz added the composition to his repertoire. For 2014 the Prague Spring Festival commissioned a Violin Concerto from Adam Skoumal. It was premiered by Roman Patočka, Peter Altrichter and Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Valse capricieuse for Violin and Piano was commissioned by Czech Radio for Concertino Praga 2016 competition. He wrote the piano composition The Jongleur for Prague Spring Competition 2016. Other often performed compositions by Adam Skoumal are e.g. Variation on a Gypsy Melody (2002) in several versions for Violin or Viola, Flute or Clarinet, accompanied by Piano or String Orchestra, Sarabanda and Gigue for Two Violins (2009) or Shalik for Violin (Cello or Viola) and Piano (2011).
