Jazz Minietudes for Piano III, some other way - Milan Dvořák

3. červen 2015

Since the already published Jazz Mini Etudes for Piano had aroused a great deal of interest, the Musical Publishing House of Czech Radio asked me to write the third series. Two concept changes have been made when compared to the first two volumes: the blues twelve-bar form is used in more etudes and - as it is common in jazz music - also in a faster pace, 3/4 metre or with harmonic interspersion.

The second change is presentation of two traditional songs and an English folk song - first they both sound in a simple arrangement, followed by a variation on the melody. Afterwards only their harmonic structure is left for interpretation. Each of the three etudes ends by returning to the original melody. I hope that piano players will welcome these changes.

Other compositions by Milan Dvořák published in Czech Radio:
Dialogues for Four Hands
Christmas Songs of European Nations
Jazz Minietudes for Piano I
Jazz Minietudes for Piano II
Jazz Minietudes for Piano IV, this time also in easier arrangements
Raise Your Hat to the Song I
Raise Your Hat to the Song II
