Marek Hlaváč studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in the studio of Tomáš Vaněk. His work (performance, installation and site-specific projects) focuses on the relationship between sound and social environment, collective performance and audience participation. He examines the relationship between the tool and the interaction of the participants - how the instrument allows and limits the situation and how the instrument shapes relationships within a group of people. Through the noise and sound at the edge of the audible spectrum, he examines the limits of perception and communication. Through the use of the simplest means combined with creativity, playfulness, unprofessionalism, open form, and collective improvisation deprived of any virtuosity, he try to create a space for music instantly accessible to anyone. Part of his work deals with sound in the public space - through exploration, intervention and event organization (eg.: the Transitional Zones Festival in Prague).
