Veronika Mayer & Petr Vrba: A.I.R. pressure

26. prosinec 2014

for amplified noisy thermos flasks & 2 players with electronic and acoustic instruments

The acousmatic composition by Petr Vrba (Prague) and Veronika Mayer (Vienna) is an hommage to thermos flasks. In certain essential conditions, thermos flasks are capable of fascinating abstract sound figures. The key elements are pressure and vibration. By listening attentively to the sounds produced by thermos flasks, one can explore a sonic spectrum that, when amplified, can boldly be compared to noise musicians, sound artists and field recorders. Soft whistle, swish, squeaks, crackles, humming or regular "pressed up" beats are just a fragment of possibilities of these anonymous improvisers. The thermos sounds became not only the true source of A.I.R. pressure (mainly its first part), but also an inspiration. How does it feel to be leaking hot air confined by a firm metal body?
