Jaromír Typlt: A mutated radiophonic reading

21. květen 2012

I have been trying in various ways since roughly 1999 to find new approaches to the tried-and true - but in my opinion not very interesting - approach to author readings. I started to call my approach "mutated author readings", perhaps in part because it is constantly growing and taking on new, unforeseen forms.

Since the very beginning, I have used computer-altered recordings of myself which have allowed me to agree as well as to disagree with myself, to interrupt myself, to cut myself off, to chime in... Over time, I naturally tried to use this approach to create a final recording. These recordings later formed the basis for creating this mutated radiophonic reading.

Some of the recordings are of longer written texts (Kus šutru / Piece of Rubble, 2002), while others are of various sketches, fragments and live improvisations (Výrok Y / Statement Y, 2000, Kůra / Bark, 2002, or excerpts from Zajetí / Captivity, 2002, which was prepared as a soundtrack for Viktor Kopasz's videofilm Shadowplay). In the spring of 2006, a recording of "Podivní přátelé (Strange Friends)" was made directly for PremEdice. This text was not written for print, but was intended to be presented live as "slam poetry". I would like to thank a small clay statue and a prepared guitar for providing musical accompaniment. I would also like to give special thanks to Ivan Acher for his long-standing technical support.
