Bořivoj Suchý: A Day With Reynek

22. září 2010

In Bohuslav Reynek's collection of poems A Snake in the Snow (1925), there is one morning caused by a rooster (The Rooster and the Day), one wistful winter afternoon (Still-Life) and one evening train "hissing and crackling like a giant banner" (18. VIII. - 19h-20h 15´). Reynek does more than capture a day's passage; he offers a simple sense of security, the search for something ancient, yet new, accidental...

Thanks to Ondřej Urban, the sensitive fingers and strings of Honza Ždánský, the breathing of Magda Čáslavová and the playful drumsticks of Junko Černochová meet with the voice of Honza Houkal, who gives it his all. All I can do is look for a space, an island, and to thank others when they set foot upon it.

Performers:

Jan Houkal - voice,
Jan Ždánský - violoncello,
Magda Čáslavská - flute,
Junko Honda - percussions
