Jonáš Gruska: Netopiere / Bats

18. prosinec 2015

Exploration on the ultrasound field recording and composing with commonly inaudible sounds. What lies behind the 20 kHz and narrowest parts of the cochlea of the inner ear? It can be find in new composition by the slovak artist and developer of the electronic instruments Jonáš Gruska.

Bats are ultrasound, or at least my dream of ultrasound. People can not hear utrazvuk yet, but we can at least try it on. In my piece I have been using portable demodulator examined the vocalizations of bats and insects in nature which subsequently appear as direct recordings or sources of inspiration for my synthesis. I tried to be true to the concept, but the piece is not an attempt to realistic simulation, this is rather a kind of free translation of the situation and wishes. The composition consists of four parts. The first is devoted to the crickets, cicadas and grasshoppers. The second is about the flight of bats during which they discusses the flies. The third part is sound of insect on the banks of the Danube about the coming winter. And the fourth was inspired by hunting bats. My piece ends on the 20 kHz, but conceptually goes beyond the scope of the human ear. Like a dream.
