Miroslav Posejpal: Three Chapters from the Book of Travels

29. leden 2005

Deep in our heart, deep in our mind there is a division line... Beyond that we no longer master ourselves; the self ends here, the "now" stops here ... here begins the ocean of man... The land of strayed images Of forgotten experiences from the depths of time, from past lives, The memory of rocks and trees, the memories of atoms and stars High mountains and dark depths, instincts of blood, trembling and calmness The land of drowsing possibilities All in one One in all It is all in us Even THIS is in us

The Book of Travels

I do not feel like a musician, at least not in the traditional sense. I have always been more interested in the expressive possibilities of sound that reach beyond the realm of relations and patterns traditionally used in music creation. Through gradual searching in this field and experimenting with various instruments, both acoustic and amplified, I have finally come to the present state of my instrumentarium: a violin-cello whose sound is electrically transmitted, modified, layered, looped and restructured through effect digital processors. Out of the sound material processed in that way, a music-sound matter arises in the memory of my computer, mapping the development of both my precisely directed and intuitive attempts to discover the possibilities of an electro-acoustic continuum.

A kind of virtual diary and note-book of a traveler through the sound universe, The Book of Travels is a log-term cycle of electro-acoustic compositions.
