Petra Gavlasová: 24 Hours in Ova

27. březen 2004

24 Hours in Ova is an attempt at capturing the atmosphere of this mysterious town. The reality of an average day in the life of an Ostrava factory worker. Punch in, work, punch out, home, pub, back to work... over and over... Maybe a bit repetitive, but definitely not uninteresting... ***********************

I would like to thank all those without whose help this composition would not been possible: Mr. Vaňek and his company, as well as ISPAT Nová Huť in Ostrava, on whose premises I recorded some excellent audio material and where, amidst the din of the machines, I realized how glad I am to be a musician..., thanks also to Bětka Vlčková, Pepin Valášek and Stephen Elder for the great pseudo-sounds from their instruments - cello, bass clarinet, saxophone and banjo. And thanks to the Baník Ostrava fans who sang their hymn for me at the "U Rady" pub sometime around midnight... And finally thanks to Michal for his patience while I was struggling with ProTools.
