A vocal-acoustic compositional variation on the subjects of media mechanisms, manipulation, multiplication.

Noise emerges from the acoustic mass of a television broadcast that, like a stage set for our lives, is incorporated into the quiet moments of household conversations, loud and jovial toasts in pubs, and long waits at the reception desks of various institutions.

The constantly present white noise attacks us ceaselessly, in one moment becoming a compact monotone mass – a modern alternative to silence.

The sonic shape is based on a fragment from the acoustic-textual composition Moving Elusively into a Dream, which I wrote in early 2012 on a Ministry of Culture grant.

The idea for the composition was born and took shape over time, as I was bombarded by newspaper articles, radio programs, and television shows, all with the same recycled permutations of information, stale forms of expression, inflexible programming models.

In the final outcome, I have tried to juxtapose a media world whose foundations are bogged down in pie charts of viewership numbers and with its own mechanisms of multiplication and manipulation.

The composition develops in a gradual layering and multiplication of words, followed by minor variations and semiotic loops referring to the fact that many media mechanisms are an end in and of themselves.

In addition to vocal interpretations of texts, the composition works with classical music as well. The manner in which music is used shows us the threat of trivialization faced by works of art within the cold media world – a world whose main motto is to produce for production’s sake.
