Kazety a Monopoly: Poľský label Jasień ve Východiskách

Podľa nestora tamojšej scény hudobníka a majiteľa kultového labelu Mik Musik Wojciecha Kucharczyka je tendencia stúpajúca hlavne od roku 2008, čo koreluje s celosvetovou krízou. Tá len podnecuje étos DIY, ktorý je neoddeliteľnou súčasťou alternatívnej hudobnej scény.

Jasień je jedným z relatívne nových labelov s výraznou hudobnou aj vizuálnou estetikou. Emil a Joanna svojich interpretov vydávajú na príznačnom médiu DIY scény – kazetách. Jasień je rozmanitý aj čo sa týka hudobných žánrov a štýlov. Za rok existencie sa na ňom objavil zasnený shoegaze, dekonštruované plundrofónie alebo black metal. Jasień sídli vo Varšave.

Ako v praxi vyzerá mikrokozmos súčasnej nezávislej hudobnej scény mesta? “Tu vo Varšave existuje množstvo labelov a všetci spolupracujú. Napríklad obal nášho releasu Złota Jesień navrhla Paulina z kazetového labelu Wounded Knife. Robíme spolu projekty, objednávame spolu materiály a pomáhame si. Keď niekto nemôže ísť na burzu s platňami, predávame aj jeho či jej nahrávky. S Michalom z labelu BDTA trebárs hrávame Monopoly. Sme ako jedna šťastná kazetová rodina,” dodáva Joanna.

Tapes and Monopoly: The Polish label Jasień

The Polish independent music scene is flourishing at the moment. More and more labels keep appearing that enable lesser known and emerging musicians to release their debut records. According to the doyen of the Polish scene, the musician and owner of the cult imprint Mik Musik, Wojciech Kucharczyk, this has been more apparent since 2008, which coincides with the global crisis. The DIY ethos, an inherent part of the alternative music scene, thus becomes ever so important.

Jasień, one of the more recent additions on the Polish label topography, has a remarkable sonic and visual aesthetics. Emil and Joanna release their artists on the medium of choice for the DIY scene – cassette tapes. Jasień is also varied when it comes to the music genres and styles it champions. Over the year of its existence, it has featured anything from dreamy shoegaze, deconstructed plunderphonics to black metal. Jasień is based in Warsaw. What is the modus operandi of the current independent music scene of the city? “There are many labels based in Warsaw and we all work together. For example, the album art for the release of our release Złota Jesień was done by Paulina who is one half of the Wounded Knife tape label,” says Joanna. “We order our supplies together, help each other with any issues. If someone cannot go to a record fair with his or hers tapes, we sell their stuff. We even go and play Monopoly together with Michal from BDTA. Basically, we are just one happy tape recording family.”
