The 90th season of the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra will be launched by principal conductor Ondrej Lenárd with a programme devoted to a trio of works by Ludwig van Beethoven from the start of the 19th century.

The evening will begin with the overture to Heinrich Joseph von Collin’s play Coriolan. It will be followed by the composer’s only – though lasting a full three-quarters of an hour – violin concerto.

The solo part will be delivered by PRSO soloist Jan Mráček, one of the most talented young Czech violinists. The gala evening will culminate with a performance of Beethoven’s Third; the composer had planned on titling it “Bonaparte” but on learning that Napoleon had had himself crowned emperor he changed the subtitle to “Eroica” (“Heroic”) and dedicated the work to “the memory of a great man”.
