Michael Barenboim and Ondrej Lenárd, 16. 3. at the Rudolfinum
The violin virtuoso with the famous surname (yes, he is the younger son of pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim) ranks among the most in-demand and admired of musicians. To our delight, he has accepted an invitation from the PRSO, with which he performed Bruch’s Violin Concerto no.1 in G minor in September 2013 at the Wiesbaden spa. The understanding and harmony that marked that encounter resulted in a promise that is now being fulfilled: They are going to perform the piece once again at the Rudolfinum’s Dvořák Hall.
The programme also includes Lukáš Hurník’s orchestral debut Sentences for Orchestra, the quality of which has not faded almost 20 years after its premiere, and Brahms’ 1st Symphony, sometimes referred to as Beethoven’s 10th. There are two opposing understandings of the nickname – one assesses Brahms in a very positive manner as the artistic successor of the Viennese great; the second takes him as a mere Beethoven imitator. But regardless of nicknames, positive or negative, the symphony is still loved by audiences around the world.
The concert will be conducted by the orchestra’s chief Ondrej Lenárd and will be broadcast live by Czech Radio Vltava.
