PRSO to appear at landmark Český Krumlov

1. červen 2016

The 25th edition of the Český Krumlov IMF will open on 16 July with an opera gala concert by the star Juan Diego Flórez.

He will be accompanied at the Brewery Garden by the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, as the festival’s ensemble in residence, and US conductor Christopher Franklin.

Though Juan Diego Flórez is famous for his interpretation of the works of Rossini, Donizetti and Bellini, in Český Krumlov he will perform a different repertoire. Most of the first part of the evening will be given over to Mozart, while music from the legacy of the French composers Gounod and Massenet will also be performed.

Following the interval the Peruvian tenor will focus on the world of the zarzuela, the Spanish lyric-dramatic genre analogous to the operetta. Following melody-infused folk culture the evening will climax with the music of Giuseppe Verdi.

Alongside this honourable task the PRSO conducted by principal conductor Ondrej Lenárd will also take the lead role in the closing concert. On Saturday 6 August it will again perform outdoors at the Brewery Garden. The programme will feature Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana in cooperation with the Kühn Mixed and Children’s Choir; soprano Adriana Kučerová, countertenor Roger Isaacs and baritone Audun Iversen will perform the solos.

Thanks to its attractive dramaturgy and the participation of world famous interpreters (tenors Jonas Kaufmann and José Cura, baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky, soprano Renée Fleming, mezzo-soprano Elina Garanča and in particular opera world legend Plácido Domingo), the Český Krumlov IMF has become a top-ranking classical music festival. The PRSO has been its orchestra in residence since 2008.
