Terézia Kružliaková, mezzo-soprano
Terézia Kružliaková (born 1978) studied singing at the Ján Levoslav Bella Conservatory in Banská Bystrica under Dagmar Rohová-Boksová and at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava under Zlatica Livorová, graduating in 2004. She also attended master classes given by Regina Resnik in the Italian town of Treviso.
The young mezzo-soprano has taken part with success in domestic and international competitions. She took first place in the junior category at the Antonín Dvořák International Vocal Competition in Karlovy Vary (2001). She has been a winner in the first category at the Mikuláš Schneider-Trnavský Competition in Trnava (2002), triumphed in 2003 in a competition held in honour of the memory of Polish singer Ada Sari in the town of Nowy Sącz, and the following year won the international Totti del Monte competition in Italy’s Treviso.
As a student, Kružliaková was already performing at the State Opera in Banská Bystrica. Since 2003, she has been soloist at the opera of the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava. She is currently performing there in the roles of Maffio Orsini (in Donizetti’s Lucrezia Borgia), Olga (in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin) and Suzuki (in Puccini’s Madame Butterfly). She won plaudits for her convincing portrayals of Suzuki and Olga under German director Peter Konwitschny.
Terézia Kružliaková performs as guest at the State Opera in Prague and is a guest at the National Theatre’s Janáček Opera in Brno (Olga, Angelina in Rossini’s Cinderella). In 2004, she performed the role of Rosina in Rossini’s The Barber of Seville and at Treviso’s Teatro Comunale, performing the role again the following year in Porto, Portugal.
She also takes part in concert projects (the festivals Bratislava Musical Celebrations, the opera part of the Zvolen Chateau Plays, Prague Spring, the Autumn Festival of Spiritual Music in Olomouc, the Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf International Music Festival, etc.)
Terézia Kružliaková regularly performs with leading orchestras and vocal ensembles in Slovakia (The Slovak Philharmonic, the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Slovak Philharmonic Choir) and abroad. As part of the Days of Culture of the Slovak Republic in the Russian Federation in 2004 she performed with the Moscow Academic Symphony Orchestra.
