Zaneta was born on June 29, 1976 in Zoo Rhenen in the Netherlands. She has the honour to have two two names: Bernardyne-Zanet, but responds to the name Zhanetta. If she wants to, that is.
She came to Zoo Dvur Kralove on May 11, 1984, after a new ape pavilion was erected. When she came, she was just under 8 years old and weighed 40 kg. She was later paired with male Elmar.
Her first young, male Guru, was born on December 14, 1989. Guru now lives in a zoo in the Netherlands and has already fathered offspring. That means Zaneta is a grandmother. Yet she is bringing up her youngest offspring, a male name Besar who was born on February 8, 2005. Zaneta is an excellent mother, taking due care of her young. Her other offspring are female Nona (* February 9, 1995), currently in Moscow zoo, and male Batu (* August 8, 1999), who is in Zoo Novosibirsk. The father of them all is Zaneta's partner Elmar. Zaneta is quite stubborn, like every orang-utan. It is sometimes necessary to shout at her because she won't obey. When someone angers her, she spits mightily. She also chases adolescent Besar around the enclosure and teaches him manners the orang-utan way.
She has beautiful, relatively long dark red fur and a very wild look. She loves fruit, most of all bananas and melons. She knows how to order the group and win respect among the other females. Currently, she lives with her son and new female Satu. When Satu was being integrated in the troop, Zaneta inspected her closely, boxed her lightly a few times, and threatened her with exposed canines - to make it clear where the junior female's place was. Zaneta is allowed to join Elmar only for mating and then returns to her adolescent son to stay with the rest of the group until the delivery.
