The first three years of the Revealed project were devoted primarily to developments in the gorilla pavilion in Prague Zoo. There were quite a few landmark events during this period.
first of all, a new female, Kamba, joined the troop. Then two females, Kamba and Kijivu, conceived. We started round-the-clock video monitoring to capture unique footage of their respective deliveries. We were assisted in this effort by an informal group of volunteers recruiting from the most enthusiastic supporters of the project. In the meantime, Moja, the first gorilla born in captivity in the Czech Republic, nearly drowned. Kamba's miscarriage was a tragedy, offset by the joy of the birth of Tatu. However, his infancy was not trouble-free, either. When he was two months old, his mother Kijivu fell seriously ill and stopped caring for him. Tatu survived only thanks to quick reaction and solidarity of another female, Shinda, who is infertile. Meanwhile, we carried out numerous experiments to explore intellectual and manual capabilities of our gorillas. Everything is documented on thousands of photographs and hundreds of videos. We thought the whole collection was so unique that it deserved a public presentation. That is why we decided to hold the first "Revealed Festival" featuring the best images and videos with commentary. On the occasion, we would also present our current activities aimed at protection of gorillas in the wild, including unique video footage from Africa. Visitors of the Revealed Festival will be able to buy our books, CDs, DVDs, children's games, and other Revealed-branded products. The proceeds will go towards protection of gorillas in Africa. When and where? The Revealed Festival will take place as part of the 15th international book fair Book World 2009, in the Industrial Palace at the Prague Exhibition Grounds from May 14 to May 17, 2009.
