The Revealed has been aiming several years to support protection of Western Lowland Gorillasin Central Africa. First we financially supported a primate rescue centre in Limbe but then decided to carry out a project of our own. We published a book of fairy-tales about gorillas in English and French and distributed it to schoolchildren in Cameroon. Having been eagerly awaiting responses from children for five months, we have now learned how they liked our book.
'Gorilla Stories' or 'Histoires des Gorilles' comprises selected stories from Czech books by Miroslav Bobek and Tereza Sefrnova 'Moja and the Peacock' and 'Moja, Tatu and the Tipules'. We distributed the book to Cameroonian schools together with representatives of the Limbe Wildlife Centre last November. It was apparent from the first moment that children found it attractive, especially because of colour photographs where they could see gorillas in detail. We wondered if they find the stories equally attractive, if the main message of the book falls on fertile soil and if it meets its main purpose - to show children in Cameroon how gorillas live and help them understand why it is important to protect endangered species.
