Adjibolo came to Limbe Wildlife Centre when she was only about 6 months old. She was confiscated by senior civil servant in the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Adjibolo, from a hunter who tried to sell her.
When Adjibolo came to Limbe Wildlife Centre, one of our long term volunteers stayed with her for more than 3 months. Adjibolo needed company and care 24 hours a day. During the day, Adjibolo and the volunteer would sit outside the gorilla enclosure so Adjibolo could observe the other gorillas, and get to learn them and their behavior. At night the volunteer and Adjibolo would sleep next to each other.
When Adjibolo was around 9 months old, we decided that she was old enough to be introduced to one of our female gorillas: Abbey. Abbey was very interested in Adjibolo and quickly became her foster mom.
Today Adjibolo is about two years old. She and Abbey are now living in our small gorilla group together with Arno and Tinu. Tinu, another female, is also very interested in Adjibolo and borrows her from Abbey once in a while. They play together a lot, and Tinu loves to take Adjibolo around on her back.
Adjibolo is still taking milk every morning and evening. For the rest she eats the same as the other gorillas: browse, fruits and vegetables. She is growing and now has a very big belly, just like many adult gorilla females. She is still very acrobatic though, and loves to swing in the ropes in the enclosure.
