Pavel Rychetský

Předseda Ústavního soudu ČR / President of the Constitutional Court

Pavel Rychetský je politik, právník a od srpna 2003 předseda Ústavního soudu České republiky. Od července 1998 do července 2002 byl místopředsedou vlády Miloše Zemana a zastával post předsedy Legislativní rady vlády. V následující vládě Vladimíra Špidly zastával až do srpna 2003 stejné posty, navíc byl ministrem spravedlnosti.

Od roku 1968 až do sametové revoluce pracoval jako podnikový právník v SBD Pokrok. Stal se signatářem Charty 77, publikoval v samizdatu i exilových časopisech. Dne 8. ledna 1990 byl jmenován generálním prokurátorem. V roce 1990 se stal místopředsedou československé vlády. Od roku 1992 vykonával advokátní praxi a přednášel politologii na Fakultě mezinárodních vztahů VŠE v Praze.

Do jmenování místopředsedou vlády ČR zastával funkci předsedy Ústavně právního výboru Senátu Parlamentu ČR, byl členem Mandátového a imunitního výboru a Organizačního výboru. Dne 6. srpna 2003 byl jmenován soudcem a předsedou Ústavního soudu, v květnu 2013 jej prezident Miloš Zeman jmenoval opětovně a v červnu k tomu získal potřebný souhlas Senátu.

Pavel Rychetský is a politician, lawyer and President of the Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic. From July 1998 to July 2002, he was Deputy Prime Minister of government lead by Miloš Zeman, and served as the Chairman of the Legislative Council of the Government. In the following government of Vladimír Špidla he held the same posts until August 2003, and in addition he was Minister of Justice.

From 1968 until the Velvet Revolution, he worked as a corporate lawyer at SBD Progress. He became a signatory of Charter 77, published in samizdat and exile magazines. On 8 January 1990 he was appointed Attorney General. In 1990 he became vice-chairman of the Czechoslovak government. Since 1992 he has been practicing law and lecturing political science at the Faculty of International Relations, University of Economics in Prague.

Until his appointment as Deputy Prime Minister, he held the position of Chairman of the Constitutional and Legal Committee of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, and was a member of the Mandate and Immunity Committee and the Organizing Committee. On 6 August 2003 he was appointed a judge and chairman of the Constitutional Court, in May 2013 President Miloš Zeman re-appointed him and in June he obtained the necessary approval of the Senate.
