Petra Gavlasová, Klára Čížková: Halí Belí

... the night as inspiration ... various aspects of a time when we go beyond the conscious, diurnal part of our being...

Night can be seen as a sequence of individual events: evening preparations, getting ready to go to bed, falling asleep, vivid dreams or a quiet, dark and motionless night, then dawn and the return to reality. Combining real sounds with electronics is similar to combining reality with the fantasy world – a world that speaks to us but remains half in darkness. It is both enticing and a little scary, full of creatures and colors that come from and return to the black darkness, creatures that we can only sense but that live with us and are an integral part of our lives.

“Halí belí” is a common Czech lullaby, a kind of “ferryman” on our journey to the world of sleep, a marker on the border between day and night. It is a perfectly common and ordinary song, just as every extraordinary night is, essentially, completely banal.
