Acoustic concert for the Bechyně Monastery cloister

Every space is filled with something that is being realized on the emotional level. The walls of the room delineate the space but its meaning is in living inside it. We touch the space on many levels, without being fully able to perceive the information field we are in. The movement of ideas concentrated in the AmbutPonori Project flows freely in sacral spaces whose architectonic proportions provide an ideal environment for working with space sound. Their acoustics, quality and resonance of the relations of the inner and outer environments, which had been used by the architects themselves, create a space of unique dialogue possibilities. Both the physical and immaterial aspects of space generate creative tension. The aim is to take advantage of the specific location, creating sounds and tuning tones resonating with the space of the cloister, thus offering an insight into its inspiring depths.

The composition of sounds and tones is captured in a score based on the rhythm and tectonics of the cloister whose physical qualities make for a resonance spectrum of sound frequencies. The visual model of the score is the construction pattern of the Bechyně Monastery diamond vault.

The project had two interconnected parts - an interactive sound installation and an electro-acoustic concert. The installation was a long-term one, offering every visitor a possibility to contact its sound environment. The concert itself was an event introducing possible means of playing with the installation; its radio version was recorded for Radioatelier PremEdice.
